Moonwise newsletter for Holly Moon
This is a special edition of the occasional Moonwise newsletter to remind you about the total eclipse of the moon tomorrow (Friday) night.

It is a particularly spectacular eclipse, as the moon passes so deeply through the Earth's shadow, but also because here in Britain & Ireland it will be the totally eclipsed moon that rises just before sunset. It may even be hard to see over there in the east-south-east until the sun sets and the sky starts darkening.

About 40 minutes after the moon rises, so does Mars. Mars will be very bright, as tomorrow happens to be the day it is closest to Earth in its orbit, and it is especially bright when these close approaches happen in our northern summer. Red Mars will rise below the deep red moon!

If that wasn't enough, the evening sky is full of bright planets, with the brightest, Venus, over towards the sunset, and Jupiter, almost as bright as Mars, in the south-west. Saturn, not so bright, is between Jupiter and the Moon/Mars pair.

The darkest part of the eclipse is at 21:21 BST, and totality ends at 22:13.
And yes, here is a first look at the covers for the new calendar and diaries, due out in September. I am still working on the insides, very lucky to be sitting here in the cool, with the window wide open.

If you are a fan of the diaries, you will, I hope, be pleased that I've been able to redesign the main diary pages a bit to make them clearer, and also to fit in two more places for the rising and setting times. For the Britain & Ireland edition,
I am at last able to feature somewhere in the north of England – Manchester.

The covers feature a new picture by artist Maggie Organ, and the sad news is that she is retiring from Moonwise work, so this calendar will be her swansong.
It features some truly beautiful and inspiring pictures.

I will let you know when the new calendars and diaries become available, and I expect there will be another early bird discount!
